HANDHELD SPECTROMETER

In collaboration with a global leader in analytical measurement tools, Presco embarked on the development of a state-of-the-art handheld spectrometer.

Faced with stringent packaging constraints, our engineering prowess allowed us to optimize space by distributing the electronics across multiple circuit boards. The challenge was not just in miniaturization but also in ensuring robust inter-processor communication and synchronization, a feat achieved through the integration of Controller Area Network (CAN) transceivers and a multi-channel messaging layer developed by Presco.

This initiative underscored our commitment to advancing analytical instrumentation through innovative embedded system design.

  • Optimized Space Utilization: Navigated packaging constraints by partitioning electronics among several boards.

    Advanced Communication System: Employed CAN transceivers for seamless inter-processor communications, utilizing a proprietary messaging layer.

    Firmware Update Capability: Integrated Presco’s proprietary firmware update library, supporting updates via CAN, I2C, Ethernet, Modbus, and Serial for unparalleled flexibility.

  • Comprehensive System Components: Included Torpedo DM3730 System on Module (SOM), Package-on-Package (POP) technology, and a color touchscreen display running Windows CE.

    Processing and Control: Featured three Kinetis K10 ARM Cortex-M4 processors, a PID control loop for precise temperature regulation, and a smart battery system (SBS).

    Connectivity and Interface: Provided interfaces for RFID reader and thermoelectric cooler (TEC), alongside a Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA for efficient data manipulation, compression, and transmission
