Ocular Prosthesis

Presco is working with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, a world-leading cancer institute, to develop an ocular prosthesis with an electronic display that displays a realistic image to match the remaining biological eye.

Current prosthetic eyes can have a good appearance in photographs, but have limited or no movement and therefore do not appear realistic when the patient attempts to move his or her eyes. Also, conventional prostheses do not have pupils that respond to light. Therefore, such prostheses are a daily reminder of an obvious deformity and lead to insecurity of the patient, a reluctance to be seen in public, a feeling of inferiority, and unhappiness.

  • Orientation Sensor Implementation: Designed to precisely identify muscle locations, enhancing the prosthesis's realistic eye movement.

    Infrared Beacon: Wirelessly powered within the prosthesis for accurate triangulation by optical detectors.

  • Ultra-Sensitive Optical Detectors: A 21-detector array triangulates the infrared beacon, ensuring accurate positioning and movement.

  • Microprocessor and Driver: A tiny 2x2 mm microprocessor paired with a display driver, central to processing and display functionality.

    Power Management: Includes a compact battery, an efficient charger, and wireless charging receiver circuitry, all within the prosthesis’s limited space.
